Abstract:

This fourth volume of the series of the UNESCO ISARM Americas programme presents a strategy to overcome regional challenges related to transboundary groundwater management while taking into account the criteria of sustainability as well as considering the best practices available and the scientific and technical knowledge base required to implement such a strategy. This volume is the result more than five years of collaboration between 24 countries of the Americas. It is as example that shows how science can contribute to decision-making and to the establishment of high level international cooperation.

The UNESCO´s International Hydrological Programme hopes that the ISARM of the Americas programme will contribute to call attention to the importance of the sustainable management of transboundary groundwater resources as well as strengthen water cooperation to ensure peace and development in the region.

The book was originally drafted in Spanish, but an Engsilsh translation is currently under way (expected in 2017)..
